K.V. Thampy, linguist, litterateur, journalist, and former head of the Department of Malayalam at Pathanamthitta Catholicate College, died at Kandanad in Ernamulam on Thursday. He was 76.
He had stayed in Pathanamthitta for nearly 50 years.
He served as chairman of the Board of Studies of Mahatma Gandhi University. He translated Khalil Gibran’s ‘The Prophet’ and Kamala Surayya’s English poems into Malayalam. His own collections of Malayalam poems ‘Punarjanmam’ and ‘Pravasageethangal’ were notable.
